The vast expanse of the sea and its limited natural sources are subject to a wide variety of misuse and abuse: illegal fishery, drug smuggling, trafficking, illegal immigration and security threats, all challenge countries to improve their ability to monitor and control their exclusive economic zones (360 km from shore).

To date, more than 90% of countries’ exclusive economic zones (EEZ) remain unmonitored and unclaimed, exposing them to harmful elements.
